6 Decor Trends That Will Turn Your Bedroom Into A Sanctuary

It’s a fact: We spend about a third of every day in bed. While we wish this was because we were getting a solid eight hours of shut-eye, the reality is we spend a lot of that time scrolling Instagram under the covers. Regardless, your bedroom is where you unwind and where you start your day. As such, your decor is pretty important. To help you transform your boudoir into a beautiful, relaxing sanctuary, we enlisted the help of some top interior designers. Fair warning: You may never want to leave your room again.

Headboards "A headboard makes a bed look finished and it's a great way to add a color or pattern to your room if you have plain walls," says interior designer Sasha Bikoff. "You can get good deals at flea markets or online auction sites and then reupholster with whatever fabric you want."

Minimalism Clean lines, blonde wood and black metal accents are all in for 2017, says interior designer Katherine Carter. "Keep walls neutral," she recommends, "preferably Gallery White, and implement pops of color with art and accessories." Oh, and rein in your throw-pillow obsession if you're going for this look. But that doesn't mean things should feel sterile; it's all about balance. "Allow room in your budget for investment pieces, since everything counts in a minimalist design," she adds.

Statement Wallpaper "This project in the Hamptons uses wallpaper I made from photos I took," says Sasha. "It helps make the whole room feel surrounded by nature." If you want to do something similar, sites like Murals Your Way allow you to upload your own image and turn it into wallpaper. "The right imagery can really make a space feel serene and unique," she adds.

Brass Accents "Brass is still going strong this year, and for good reason—it's elegant and timeless," says Katherine. To pull off this trend without veering into tacky territory, she recommends sticking with accent pieces and light fixtures.

Symmetry "Not only is this design strategy pleasing to the eye, it is, by definition, balanced," says Katherine. "I believe a symmetrically designed bedroom lends itself to balance and harmony.
